LiveAbove Event

Reaching, teaching and affecting the lives of Christian high school juniors and seniors is one of the hardest jobs in America today. YTN has spent a great deal of time interacting with over 1,000 students seeking to understand their perspectives and the things that snare them in the transition leading up to and following graduation. This has helped us assemble an event that will prepare and motivate them to move forward with their faith, as well as provide a tangible opportunity to connect with college ministry leaders before they leave home. This event will challenge the most committed students and help the disenfranchised to reevaluate the course they are on.

Event Promotion

We recognize that many youth ministries have seen a decline in senior attendance already by the point of this event in February. This, combined with the denial many students live in up until the day they leave home, means that we cannot rely on simply talking about their transition at youth group and only showing a short video clip to truly inspire them to connect to a new church/ministry home after they graduate.

We need to reach out to all the juniors and seniors who have been involved in our groups or attended our churches. This is our last chance at helping them in their upcoming transition to carry their faith forward. The church has invested heavily in their lives and we should not just let them slip away without an effort to reach them.

To accomplish this, we recommend that you send a letter to every senior and junior at their home with the student promotional card (available in the management area). We also recommend a letter from the senior pastor be sent to all the parents of juniors and seniors, letting them know how important the preparation and transition of their students is to the church and how, together, we can help set them up for academic, financial and spiritual success. United, we can touch the hearts and lives of these students.

The links below are for promotional materials to help churches, youth ministries and Christian schools become involved as host sites for their students and/or the community. Once you have been approved as a host site, there will be more online materials available, including: cover letters, cards and flyers for parents and students. They have been formatted to be printed on 8 x 11 paper or to be emailed.

Approaching Parents

Parents will help if they understand why it is important. Many students live in denial up to the day summer ends after their senior year and they head to college or work. As a result, it will take the youth leader and the parent working together in order to get the students to understand the reason to attend. Today, 26% of all college freshmen drop out and, according to Ohio State University, have received little (if any) preparation for the changes that led to them not making it. The number one reason that the 26% dropped out dealt with the change and stress related to the social environment and loneliness that led them to escape into activities that often compromised their school success. The second reason was the change in academic protocol that they were not ready for, leading to academic failures. Thirdly, they had difficulty with financial management; students spending all their money quickly and running up debt so that they had to drop out. The LiveAbove event will combine practical preparation in these areas, with spiritual motivation to help them transition well and connect to a ministry wherever they are heading to after graduation.
